Business Accounting

Program Description
The objective of the Business Accounting program is to prepare students for a variety of entry-level accounting occupations in accounting firms, corporate offices, small companies, and government offices as bookkeepers, accounting and auditing clerks, and A/R and A/P clerks. To meet this objective, students will learn how to use current software and develop skills in the process of organizing, analyzing, and interpreting financial information. Graduates of this program will be able to record debits and credits; prepare ledgers and balance sheets; verify the accuracy of records; classify payables and receivables; prepare bank deposits; post transactions; access information using the Internet, create documents using computer word processing software; and use computerized spreadsheets and accounting software. Course work will consist of in-class lab and lecture and out of class homework. Homework may include special projects, reading, team projects, research, assigned reports and other activities outside of class and/or instructional hours. In-class lab and lecture and out-of-class homework will each be assigned a portion of the final course grade. Out-of-class time for the Business Accounting program is 180 hours.
