Medical Coding / Billing Technician

Coding

Program Description

The objective of the Medical Coding/Billing Technician program is to prepare students for a career in private healthcare practices, in clinics, in hospitals, in government agencies, in skilled nursing facilities, in insurance companies, in consulting firms, and in other healthcare facilities. Graduates of this program may find entry-level employment as a records’ coder, a claims’ examiner, or a medical biller. To meet this objective, students will learn how to evaluate coding and billing practices.  This program provides tools for developing compliance programs that will help minimize the risk of investigation and balances the knowledge of medical science, technical skills, and coding experience.  Students go through a careful step-by-step study of what medical coders and billers need to get the job done accurately. Course work will consist of in-class lab and lecture and out of class homework. Homework may include special projects, reading, team projects, research, assigned reports and other activities outside of class and/or instructional hours. In-class lab and lecture and out-of-class homework will each be assigned a portion of the final course grade. Out-of-class time for the Medical Coding/Billing Technician program is 270 hours.
