Computer and Electronics Technician

Program Description
The objective of the Computer & Electronics Technician program is to prepare students for employment in corporate offices, in small companies, in banks, in large and small computer companies, and in government positions as entry-level computer support specialists and computer repair and electronic technicians. Additionally, graduates can also become self-employed computer technicians or consultants. To meet this objective, students will learn basic electricity and electronic circuitry and will be able to work with digital fundamentals, logic circuits, and digital to microprocessor conversions. They will also learn how PC-based microprocessors including hardware, peripheral-based memory and storage systems, printers, modems, and CD-ROMs work. Graduates of this program will be able to access information using the Internet and use diagnostic software for troubleshooting and repairing computer systems. Course work will consist of in-class lab and lecture and out of class homework. Homework may include special projects, reading, team projects, research, assigned reports and other activities outside of class and/or instructional hours. In-class lab and lecture and out-of-class homework will each be assigned a portion of the final course grade. Out-of-class time for the Computer and Electronics program is 180 hours.
